Pune, Maharashtra (February 27, 2025): A woman working at an IT company in the city had a shocking experience while traveling in a cab. The incident came to light after she filed a complaint, raising fresh concerns about the safety of women commuting in the city.
According to police, a 41-year-old woman engineer employed at an IT firm lodged a complaint about the incident. She had booked a cab through a well-known aggregator app and left her office in Kalyani Nagar around 7:30 p.m. to travel home to Pimple Saudagar. As the vehicle reached Shahadawal Baba Chowk and continued toward Patil Estate Chowk via Sangamwadi Road, the driver adjusted the rearview mirror to get a clear view of the woman’s face. He then began masturbating while driving. The woman, terrified by his actions, waited for the car to stop at a traffic signal. The moment it did, she opened the door and ran out.

She ran nearly two kilometers before reaching the Khadki police station to report the incident. Meanwhile, the driver stopped the vehicle near the highway and fled.
Police used booking details and the vehicle’s registration number to track down the cab owner and eventually arrest the accused. Assistant Police Inspector Chormole confirmed that a case has been registered against him. He has been charged under sections 74 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had recently moved to Pimpri-Chinchwad. Assistant Police Inspector Chormole confirmed that a case has been registered against him.
