A Department of Defense employee, Subhash Magan Pawar (51, resident of Khalumbre, Tal. Khed), has been arrested for allegedly extorting Rs 43 lakh from four Dehugaon residents by promising them permanent jobs at the Talegaon depot. Kavita Kailas Tilekar (40, resident of Malwadi, Dehugaon, Tal. Haveli) filed a complaint at the Dehuroad police station, alleging Pawar provided fake appointment letters and admit cards with forged signatures and stamps on Army-letterhead, but no actual employment between October 15, 2023, and March 4, 2025.

According to Senior Police Inspector Vikram Bansode, Pawar, a packer at the Talegaon depot who has been absent from work for a year, convinced Tilekar and others he could secure them government jobs. He gained their trust and accepted Rs 43 lakh in exchange for jobs for their children, providing fraudulent documents in return.

Pawar is now in seven-day police custody while authorities investigate. The Dehuroad police believe Pawar may have defrauded additional victims, as several individuals have come forward with similar complaints. The police are currently recording their statements, suggesting the scope of the fraud is likely to expand.
