Pune Municipal Corporation Election Results 2026: At just 22, Sai Thopate has captured attention in Pune’s political circles by winning the ‘C’ seat in Ward No. 36 (Sahakarnagar-Padmavati) in the Pune Municipal Corporation elections. Thopate contested on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket and became the youngest candidate in Maharashtra to do so.

Thopate is currently in her final year of BBA at Symbiosis College in Pune. She learned about her nomination during a regular class when she received a call from her party. The news was met with excitement by her classmates, and she later rushed to her ward to campaign. Entering the election while still a student marked a significant milestone in her career.

Thopate has been actively associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for several years. Through her work in student movements, she has participated in social initiatives, awareness campaigns, and organisational responsibilities. She has consistently advocated for students’ issues, educational facilities, career opportunities, and youth rights. Her experience in student leadership, communication skills, and organisational abilities contributed to her visibility as a young leader.

Thopate comes from a politically active family. Her father, Prashant Thopate, has served as a senior BJP office-bearer for many years, holding positions including vice-president, general secretary, and election coordinator in the Parvati Assembly constituency. He has been instrumental in strengthening the party’s presence across Parvati, Sahakarnagar, and Dhankawadi. Observers say that BJP MLA Madhuri Misal recognised Sai Thopate’s potential and supported her nomination to represent the city in the municipal corporation.
