Unseasonal rain made an early appearance in Pune during March, offering much-needed relief from the rising heat that had gripped the city over the past few days. Temperatures had increased sharply, making afternoons particularly uncomfortable for residents. However, a sudden shift in weather conditions led to cloudy skies and rainfall across several parts of Pune and nearby Pimpri-Chinchwad on Monday afternoon, beginning around 2:30 pm. The unexpected showers caught many off guard, especially during peak hours, as office-goers and pedestrians rushed to find shelter.

According to the India Meteorological Department, such rainfall is classified as unseasonal, as the monsoon is still some time away. Weather experts explained that a sudden rise in temperature increases atmospheric moisture, often leading to abrupt rain or thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds. Over the past few days, several parts of Pune have experienced light to moderate rainfall, along with cloudy conditions and cool breezes. While the showers brought down temperatures and improved air quality, they also caused minor disruptions, including slower traffic movement due to wet roads and reduced visibility.

The IMD has issued a forecast predicting rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across parts of Maharashtra between March 30 and April 4, indicating that similar weather conditions may persist in the coming days. Although the rain has brought temporary relief from the heat, authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious, especially during outdoor activities, due to the possibility of sudden lightning or storms in isolated areas. Experts also highlighted that such unpredictable weather patterns, including unseasonal rain and sudden temperature fluctuations, have become more frequent in recent years due to changing climatic conditions.
