Pune, Maharashtra (April 14,2025): Residents of Walhekarwadi in Ravet are facing serious health issues due to the supply of muddy and foul-smelling water through household taps. Complaints of stomach pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, jaundice and dizziness have been rising in the area. People from several parts of Walhekarwadi including Tukaramnagar, Gavthan area, Nisarg Society, Bhondwenagar, Shivtirth Colony, Nandanvan Colony, Ekvira Colony, Jai Malhar Colony, Shivle Chal, Chintamani Chowk and Bijlinagar are reportedly receiving contaminated and sewage-mixed water. Locals are questioning how they are supposed to drink such polluted water. As a result, private hospitals have seen a surge in patients seeking treatment.
Pravin Dhumal, assistant engineer from the water supply department of the 'B' regional office, said, “We have not received any official complaints about contaminated water supply in Walhekarwadi. However, our staff will inspect the affected areas and necessary action will be taken.”
Health officer Dr Prafulla Tapasalkar from the Walhekarwadi municipal clinic said, “In the past two to three days, cases of diarrhoea and vomiting have increased among children and elderly residents. This rise is due to the contaminated water supply. We have informed the senior authorities. ASHA workers are surveying the area. The water supply department has been asked to collect water samples for testing.”
Social activist Aadesh Navale said, “For the past two to three days, people in Walhekarwadi are falling sick due to the supply of polluted water. Many are suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting. The water supply department must immediately identify the cause and provide clean water.”
Kunal Muthal, a resident of Ekvira Colony, said, “Since the last few days, all members of my family have experienced stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting. Doctors at the hospital confirmed that these issues were caused by contaminated water. One of our neighbours had to be admitted to the hospital.”
