A disturbing incident unfolded in Pune's Shastrinagar area on Saturday morning, where a young man was captured on video urinating at a busy traffic junction while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident, which took place in Pune's Yerawada locality, has sparked outrage and garnered widespread attention after the video surfaced on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter).

In the viral video, the man, identified as Gaurav Ahuja by the police, is seen stepping out of his luxury BMW car in the middle of the busy road. As he relieves himself in full view of the public, his associate, Bhagyesh Oswal, remains in the front seat, seemingly unbothered by the act. The incident is recorded by a bystander who warns Ahuja, but the man remains unfazed, even flashing the camera in response before getting back into the car. He then speeds away, smirking at the person who captured the video.

Authorities were quick to respond to the video, launching an investigation into the incident. A case has been filed under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act, including charges for public nuisance, rash and negligent driving, and endangering public safety.

Police have confirmed that Bhagyesh Oswal, Ahuja's associate who was in the car during the incident, has been detained for questioning. He has also been sent for medical tests, as authorities suspect the duo may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Gaurav Ahuja, however, remains absconding, with local police and the Crime Branch making efforts to locate him.

Further investigation revealed that Gaurav Ahuja is the son of a well-known restaurant owner, Manoj Ahuja. The accused, described as a habitual offender, has a history of legal troubles. Activist Vijay Kumbhar, who commented on the incident on X, claimed that Gaurav is no stranger to the law. “He is a habitual criminal with a long history of offences. He knows how to exploit legal loopholes and evade arrest,” Kumbhar wrote.
