Vaishnavi Hagawane Death Case: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested Nilesh Chavan, the co-accused in the Vaishnavi Hagawane death case, from the Nepal border after he had been absconding for several days. Police said Chavan went missing before police could arrest him. A lookout notice was issued to stop him from fleeing the country. Pimpri-Chinchwad police intensified the search and deployed eight special teams to locate him. The teams conducted operations in Pune, Mumbai, Konkan, Karnataka and Goa. Police also questioned his friends, relatives and other close contacts.
Chavan was finally tracked near the Nepal border and arrested. He is now being brought back to Pune for further investigation.

Police said Chavan had kept Vaishnavi’s baby with him for two days. When her relatives went to retrieve the child, Chavan allegedly threatened them with a gun. Following this incident, he fled.
During the search operation, a hoax call added confusion. A caller contacted emergency services and falsely claimed that Chavan had been caught. Police rushed to the scene but discovered it was a fake alert. A case has been registered against the caller for misleading police.
Police have termed Chavan’s arrest a major breakthrough in the case.
