Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has become  an indispensable application in today’s world, with millions relying on this instant messaging platform. It not only facilitates staying connected with friends and family but also assists with various daily tasks. However, a lack of caution could lead to your WhatsApp account being banned.  While WhatsApp advises users to avoid any unethical activity, there are instances where accounts get banned mistakenly or unknowingly. While most bans occur following user reports against other accounts, WhatsApp also proactively bans accounts it finds violating its terms using automated systems.

These systems detect such activities and take strict action to prevent misuse. Some of the common reasons for bans include sending spam or bulk messages using unauthorised third-party apps, violating user privacy by adding people to groups without consent or sending unsolicited messages, and using modified versions of WhatsApp like GB WhatsApp or WhatsApp Plus. Additionally, WhatsApp users can be banned from the platform for excessive message forwarding, spreading misinformation, engaging in fraudulent activities, or sharing hate speech and illegal content.

What to do if your WhatsApp account gets banned

If your WhatsApp account gets banned, the first step is to determine whether it was due to a violation of WhatsApp’s policies. You can read WhatsApp’s policies by going to WhatsApp Settings > Help > Terms and Privacy Policy.

If you believe your account was banned by mistake, you can appeal for a review by following these steps:

Open WhatsApp, where you will see a notification stating that your account has been banned.

Tap on ‘Request a Review’ within the app.

Enter the 6-digit registration code sent to you via SMS to verify your number.

After verification, submit your request for a review.

You may also add details to support your case, explaining why you believe the ban was a mistake.

Meanwhile, you can also contact WhatsApp Support via email if you are unable to request a review on the app.

Email Request

Write an email to WhatsApp support at support@whatsapp.com.

In the email, mention your phone number, including the country code, and explain that your account has been banned.

Once you submit your request, WhatsApp will investigate the issue and notify you if your account can be restored. However, note that if WhatsApp determines your account was banned due to a serious violation, the ban will remain permanent.

How to avoid getting banned on WhatsApp

It is always better to prevent a ban by following WhatsApp’s terms of service. To avoid getting banned, follow these essential guidelines:

Do not send bulk messages or automated replies using third-party apps. WhatsApp strictly prohibits mass messaging, auto-replies, and bot activities.

Always ask for permission before adding someone to a group. If a person removes themselves from a group, do not repeatedly re-add them, or WhatsApp may take action against you. Do not message people who have requested you to stop contacting them.

Avoid using third-party versions of WhatsApp, such as GB WhatsApp or WhatsApp Plus. These apps are unauthorised and can lead to a permanent ban on your account.

Limit message forwarding to curb misinformation. Only share verified information and avoid excessive forwarding of messages.

Most importantly, avoid sharing false information, hate speech, or illegal content. Engaging in harassment, impersonation, or misleading activities can result in a ban.
