Search engine and tech giant Google is planning to cut several employees again next week after recently sacking hundreds of staff as part of a global restructuring effort. According to a Business Standard report, the upcoming job cuts could affect employees in Sales, advertising, and marketing in India.

The Google offices in Hyderabad and Bengaluru are likely to face the heat as the company is planning to reassign the workforce from the engineering department to cost-cutting and revenue-generating projects amid global restructuring plans. The tech giant has not officially confirmed the following layoff plans or issued any statement regarding how many jobs will be cut.

In its recent job cut, Google sacked people from the platforms and devices division, who work on Android software, Pixel mobile phones, and the Chrome browser, to operate more effectively, a company spokesperson said. Last year, the tech company merged two departments of Devices and Platforms. Both sections operate and are led by Google SV Rick Osterloh.

Voluntary exit schemes were also introduced as part of the restructuring process at the beginning of 2025. The scheme gives incentives to employees who resign from the company before the company offers mass restructuring.

Google is focusing on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively, according to a Google spokesperson who told The Information. This included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that was offered in January 2025.

The tech giant had previously laid off several of its workforce in other areas, including its cloud services division in February 2025. This latest wave of layoffs adds to the broader trend of restructuring across Google’s core product lines.

After COVID-19 pandemic, Google laid off as many as 12,000 employees in 2023, accounting for about 6% of its global workforce. . That round of layoffs impacted multiple teams, including engineering, product, and corporate roles, with its Indian offices also bearing some of the brunt.
