Chinese smartphone giant Huawei's next smartphone could feature a rotating selfie camera, according to its filed patents in Europe which was spotted by LetsGoDigital.

The patented camera designs are similar to the ones being tested by Samsung, Oppo and Asus.

The first one has a back lens that flips up 180 degrees to face the front, serving as a selfie camera while the second design is almost identical, except the dual back cameras are aligned horizontally, allowing both to rotate over to the front, Abacus News reported on Tuesday.

Phone makers have been experimenting with different ways to maximise screen space and go notchless since quite some time.

However, one hindrance to that goal is the front camera, which has become indispensable in the age of selfies.

Perhaps that's why Huawei is now trying to achieve maximum screen real estate with the new patents.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Commerce has announced that it would extend a temporary license loosening restrictions on business deals with the Chinese tech giant for another 90 days.

It is the third time that the US government allowed American firms to get the 90-day extension to have "specific, limited engagements in transactions" with Huawei since the Chinese tech giant was put on the Entity List over "national security concerns", in May, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Department had issued 90-day temporary licenses on May 20 and August 19 respectively, to ease off part of those export restrictions.
