New Delhi, May 15 Rajasthan on Friday entered India’s fast-growing semiconductor ecosystem with the virtual inauguration of the state’s first semiconductor plant and a major Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) at Bhiwadi, as the Centre intensified efforts to position the country as a global electronics and chip manufacturing hub.

The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster developed by ELCINA at Salarpur in Khushkhera, Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, along with the semiconductor ATMP/OSAT facility of Sahasra Semiconductors, was virtually inaugurated by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Addressing the gathering, Vaishnaw described the occasion as a historic moment for Rajasthan as the state formally entered the strategically important semiconductor industry.

He highlighted India’s rapid rise in electronics manufacturing over the past 12 years, noting that production has increased six-fold to nearly Rs 13 lakh crore, while exports have reached around Rs 4.24 lakh crore.

“Mobile phones have now emerged as India’s top export commodity and credited the growth to initiatives such as Make in India, Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Vaishnaw stated.

He added that schemes such as the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC), India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programmes are helping build the country’s semiconductor ecosystem in partnership with state governments and industry players.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said the state government had introduced the Rajasthan Semiconductor Policy in March 2026 and is focusing on developing the region near Delhi-NCR into a manufacturing hub.

Bhupender Yadav said the Bhiwadi region, once known mainly for automobile manufacturing, is now emerging as a centre for semiconductor and electronics industries as well.

The Bhiwadi Electronics Manufacturing Cluster has been developed over 50.3 acres at a project cost of Rs 46.09 crore, with the Indian Government providing direct support of Rs 20.24 crore under the EMC scheme.
