Chennai, Nov 17 Russia's integrated nuclear power player Rosatom on Tuesday said that ship MV Janis has set sail with equipment for two 1,000 MW atomic power plants coming up at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district.

This is the 20th batch dispatched in 2020, the Russian company said.

According to Rosatom, the loading of the ship with various components for the upcoming third and fourth unit was completed on October 30, and it left the port on November 13.

The components for Unit 3 are polar crane components and for Unit 4, heat insulation, hydro accumulator and set of supporting elements for core passive flooding system, shells and air locks of passive heat removal system, and current ducts were loaded.

Apart from that, transport air lock equipment, pumps, hermetic penetrations, valves, pipelines, and fuel pool water seal were supplied.

It will take more than three weeks time for the equipment to reach the Indian port.

India's atomic power company, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) is building four more plants - Units 3, 4, 5 and 6 - of 1,000 MW each in Kudankulam.

The first two units of similar power generation capacity have been functional for some time now.
