Unified Payments Interface(UPI) transactions faced an outage on Wednesday afternoon, April 1, as State Bank of India (SBI) and UCO Bank, formerly United Commercial Bank, servers are reportedly down due to scheduled maintenance work.
SBI on Wednesday morning warned its customers regarding the online transaction, including UPI, IMPS, YONO, Internet Banking, NEFT and RTGS disruption, between 11 am and 11.45 am on April 1, 2026.
"Customers may use our UPI Lite and ATM Services during this period," SBI in wrote on X.
In a latest statement by SBI, the bank said scheduled maintenance activity end timing has been extended until 12.30 pm today and the online money transfer services, including UPI and IMPS may face disruptions.
"The scheduled maintenance activity end timing has been extended to 12:30 Hrs on 01.04.2026. Our services, UPI, IMPS, YONO, Internet Banking, NEFT and RTGS, may experience disruptions. Customers may use our UPI Lite, eRupee (CBDC) App and ATM Services during this period. We regret the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding," SBI in a X post.
SBI customers flood X with complaints about the disruption they are facing when using UPI services on their mobile phones.
Taking the SBI X account, an X user wrote, "@TheOfficialSBI Why are the UPI services still down?"
"#SBIfoolsday On 1st April only SBI is playing fool with people. Since morning I am trying send money through UPI but continuously they are showing that server is down," another user wrote on X.
Outage tracking website Downdetector shows a sharp rise in complaints. SBI has recorded over 500 outage reports at around 12 pm on Wednesday. According to Downdetector data, 34% users reported facing problems transferring funds, while 24% facing problem accusing YONO application and 22% reported issue with mobile banking.
The outage is wide spread across several states and cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Pune, Kolkata, Guwahati, Pune, Mumbai and Chennai.
