New Delhi, April 1 Digital payment services faced disruption across India on Wednesday, leaving many users unable to complete transactions through UPI platforms.

According to outage tracking platform Downdetector, complaints surged sharply during the day -- indicating a widespread issue.

The impact appeared significant on State Bank of India, which saw over 500 outage reports, while UCO Bank recorded around 40 complaints.

Overall, UPI-related downtime reports also crossed 40, with numbers continuing to rise as more users flagged issues.

The disruption was not limited to a single region, with users from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur and Pune reporting failed transactions and payment errors.

In the case of SBI, the outage appeared more widespread, with complaints also coming in from Kolkata, Guwahati and Chennai.

Meanwhile, UCO Bank users facing issues were largely concentrated in New Delhi, Jaipur and Kolkata.

Many users took to X to share their experience. While some expressed frustration over failed payments, others were unsure whether the issue was with their bank or their own devices.

Several users reported transactions getting stuck midway, while in some cases UPI apps failed to load completely.

Responding to the situation, SBI said on social media that a scheduled maintenance activity had been extended till 12:30 pm on April 1.

The bank warned that services such as UPI, IMPS, YONO, internet banking, NEFT and RTGS may face disruptions during this period.

It advised customers to use alternatives like UPI Lite, eRupee (CBDC) app and ATM services in the meantime, while apologising for the inconvenience caused.

“The scheduled maintenance activity end timing has been extended to 12:30 Hrs on 01.04.2026,” the public lender said.

“Our services, UPI, IMPS, YONO, Internet Banking, NEFT and RTGS, may experience disruptions,” it added.

SBI explained that the Customers may use our UPI Lite, eRupee (CBDC) App and ATM Services during this period.

“We regret the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding,” the public lender mentioned.
