TeamYouTube has issued an stamen explaining the reason why the Alphabet-owned video streaming platform witnessed a global outage on Wednesday, February 18, making users confused. YouTube users faced issues in accessing the application and desktop sites.
Lakhs of users around the world, including from US, reported an outage on the outage tracking website Downdetector in the early hours of Wednesday. However, YouTube had confirmed the issue and promised to resolve the issue at the earliest.
TeamYouTube, stated that it was aware that some users were experiencing issues accessing YouTube and that its teams were investigating the problem and would provide updates as soon as possible.
"Update: An issue with our recommendations system prevented videos from appearing across surfaces on YouTube (including the homepage, the YouTube app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids). The homepage is back, but we're still working on a full fix – more coming soon!," said TeamYouTube in a post on X.
In a latest post, X, the company said that the video Google-backed YouTube platform is now working normally and is facing no issues. "Aaaand we're back!! This issue has been fixed across YouTube. Thanks for all the reports and for bearing with us while we sorted it out."
The outage affected over 320,000 US users, according to Downdetector.com data. Downdetector’s numbers are based on user-submitted reports. The actual number of affected users may vary. As of around 7:59 PM ET, Downdetector recorded 240,707 reports, as reported by Reuters, from users facing issues with the popular video-sharing platform. The website monitors service disruptions by collecting real-time status reports from multiple sources.
