Traffic movement in the Manpada area, a key stretch on the Ghodbunder Road in Thane West, will be restricted from May 8 to 10 due to metro-related work. Authorities have said the launching of a girder is likely to cause heavy congestion on Ghodbunder Road and adjoining routes.

The Thane Traffic Police have announced temporary diversions as the girder installation work will be carried out from 11:55 pm on May 8 to 6:00 am on May 10. During this period, congestion is expected on alternative routes such as Kolshet and Mullabaug.

Ghodbunder Road is one of the most important arterial roads in the Thane district, handling a large volume of heavy vehicles travelling from Gujarat towards JNPA and Bhiwandi. It is also widely used by commuters from areas between Gaimukh and Kapurbawdi travelling towards Thane station, as well as by office-goers from Vasai-Virar heading to Thane, Navi Mumbai and Bhiwandi.

Construction work for Metro Line 4 (Wadala–Ghatkopar–Kasarvadavali) and Metro Line 4A (Kasarvadavali–Gaimukh), being undertaken by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, has been ongoing along this route. In addition, work to integrate service roads with the main carriageway is also in progress, leading to narrowed stretches at several points. This has already contributed to congestion, particularly when vehicles break down or traffic volume increases.

Vehicular Restrictions and Diversions

As part of the ongoing metro work, a pedestrian bridge is being constructed to connect the Manpada Metro station. The erection of its steel girder will require the closure of traffic on the Manpada flyover. Vehicles travelling from Ghodbunder towards Thane, Manpada and Kapurbawdi will not be allowed to enter at Bramhand Signal and will be diverted via Kolshet-Dhokali through Azadnagar.

Similarly, vehicles travelling from Thane, Majiwada and Kapurbawdi towards Ghodbunder will not be permitted to use the Manpada flyover. These vehicles will be diverted from Manpada Chowk via Tikujiniwadi, Nilkanth Greens and Mullabaug.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic Pankaj Shirsat has issued a notification detailing the changes. The diversions will remain in effect from 11:55 pm on May 8 until 6:00 am on May 10.
