11 people were killed and two seriously injured in a collision between a taxi and a cement concrete mixer truck on the Kalyan–Ahilyanagar highway on Monday morning, April 13. All the deceased were residents of Murbad taluka and were travelling from Kalyan to Murbad, according to information. Preliminary reports suggest the accident took place due to one-way traffic movement on a bridge.

The bodies of the victims have been sent to Govili Rural Hospital for the post-mortem by the police with the help of locals. Following the incident, locals expressed anger and alleged that the bridge was opened in a hurry without proper safety measures, leading to the crash.

It has also emerged that the car was carrying more passengers than its permitted capacity, which may have increased the severity of the accident.

According to police, “The accident occurred between an Eco car and a Tata cement mixer truck on the NH-61 Kalyan–Ahilyanagar road at around 10:45 am. The deceased have been brought to Govili Hospital. Further investigation is underway. It is confirmed that 11 people have died.”
