A 30-year-old passenger lost both legs after falling under a moving train while trying to alight at Thane railway station, the police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred at 9.50 pm on Tuesday. While the Indrayani Express was leaving the station, passenger Purushottam Paswan, hailing from Jharkhand, attempted to get off the moving train, Thane Government Railway Police's (GRP) senior inspector Archana Dusane told reporters.
In the process, he lost his balance and fell into the gap between the platform and the train, resulting in both his legs being severed, she said. The railway police and by-standers rushed to help him. Paswan was initially taken to the Thane Civil Hospital, but in view of the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (Sion Hospital) in Mumbai for advanced treatment, the official said. Authorities have cautioned commuters against boarding or deboarding a moving train.
