Thane: In an unexpected turn of events, a violent shooting incident took place in the Mumbra area of Thane. In this one man died and two other were seriously injured. Following the firing incident, a 51-year-old former Army personnel was taken into custody on Thursday, April 2nd 2026.  

According to FPJ reports, incident occurred at the approximately 11:30 AM near Sumantai Chavan Hindi Primary School in the Kailash Nagar locality, Mumbra bypass Jayan Shivanandan Nair allegedly shot at a group of men after a days-long personal dispute stemming from harassment allegations involving Nair’s foster sister, according to preliminary police reports.

Thursday morning at Bismilla Chawl, a dispute led to Nair allegedly firing five shots, killing Akbar Abdul Shaikh (29) and seriously injuring Abdul Hasan Shaikh (45) and Samir Ahmed Shaikh (32). Akbar Abdul Shaikh was declared dead at Kalsekar Hospital, where the other two victims are being treated.

After the shooting, the suspect was apprehended while fleeing the scene, and the weapon was seized for forensic analysis.Senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and both the DCPs, arrived to oversee the investigation. A forensic team collected ballistic evidence and reconstructed the incident. "The accused has been taken into custody along with the weapon," a senior police official stated. 

The primary motive appears to be a dispute over alleged harassment of a relative, but we are thoroughly investigating other factors. An FIR is being registered under the BNS and the Arms Act. The Mumbra Bypass area was secured by a heavy police presence to maintain order, and authorities have appealed for public calm during the ongoing investigation.
