In another news of crime, Mumbai’s Prabhadevi area was gripped by shock after an 18-year-old youth was found dead under suspicious circumstances. The deceased has been identified as Anshu Sonlal Verma, a resident of Kamgar Nagar. Injury marks found on his face and neck have ruled out a natural death and indicated murder by strangulation. Based on these findings, the Dadar police have registered a murder case against an unknown accused and initiated an investigation.

According to police officials, Anshu Verma was employed at a tea stall on Gokhale Road in Dadar (East). He lived in a single-room chawl at Kamgar Nagar-1 on New Prabhadevi Road with two other youths, both of whom also worked at the same tea stall.

On the night of January 31, at around 11.30 pm, Anshu was found unconscious near the gate of Kamgar Nagar, reportedly in an intoxicated state. The matter was conveyed to his employer, Akshay Maruti Patil, over the phone. Anshu was then taken to his room and laid on his bed. At around 12.10 am, Patil visited the room and found Anshu asleep. At that time, there were no visible injury marks on his body, nor were there any signs of foul play.

The situation took a serious turn in the early hours of February 1, around 2 am, when Anshu failed to regain consciousness. His roommates and family members attempted to wake him by sprinkling water on his face, but he did not respond. He was rushed to KEM Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The case deepened after a preliminary examination in the post-mortem room revealed severe assault marks on Anshu’s face and distinct reddish pressure marks around his neck, strongly suggesting strangulation. The discovery left his family members and acquaintances stunned.

In his complaint, Akshay Patil stated that after he left the room, an unknown person allegedly entered the premises, assaulted Anshu and strangled him to death for reasons yet to be ascertained.

The Prabhadevi police have registered a murder case against an unidentified person and are scanning CCTV footage from the area and nearby locations. Police officials said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received. Following the incident, fear and anger have gripped the Prabhadevi locality.
