A tragic incident unfolded at Thane Railway Station in the early hours of Monday, February 23, 2026, involving the 22177 Mahanagri Express. Around 1:15 am, a woman passenger suffered severe injuries after slipping and falling into the space between the train and the platform. The accident caused concern among fellow commuters present at the station at the time. Upon receiving information about the mishap, railway officials and emergency response teams rushed to the spot without delay. The Railway Police also arrived promptly to manage the situation and assist in rescue efforts. Immediate medical attention was provided at the scene before the injured passenger was shifted to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The swift action of the authorities ensured that the victim received urgent care as quickly as possible. Further details regarding her condition were not immediately available.

In a similar incident that was reported on January 31,  three commuters were injured after reportedly falling from a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-bound suburban train between Sion and Matunga in Mumbai. According to railway authorities, early findings indicate that heavy overcrowding inside the coach may have led to the incident. Officials stated that the mishap took place around 10 am when the southbound local had just left Sion station. After travelling roughly 500 metres, the three men allegedly lost their balance and fell from the compartment. It is suspected that they were standing close to the doorway because of the packed conditions inside the train at the time of the incident.

The injured passengers have been identified as Sachin Sharma, 26, who resides in Nalasopara; Afzal Chaudhary, 30, from Govandi; and Zenual Sayyad, 35, a resident of Kurla. Authorities confirmed that all three sustained injuries in the fall.

The Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP) has recorded an incident report and begun a detailed investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the episode. Railway officials said further inquiries are underway to establish whether overcrowding was the primary cause and to review safety measures on the route.
