Several parts of Thane faced a power outage on Sunday morning due to a technical fault, leaving thousands of residents inconvenienced amid rising temperatures. Areas including Ghodbunder, Kolshet, Manpada, Wagle Estate, Majiwada and Balkum were affected by the disruption.

The outage occurred at a time when temperatures in the city have been hovering around 35°C for the past few days, worsening the discomfort for residents. Many people reported difficulties completing their morning routines due to the lack of electricity.

According to officials from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, the disruption was caused after the 220 kV Padgha–Wada and 220 kV Kolshet–Kharbav transmission lines tripped around 6 am, affecting power supply in several parts of the Ghodbunder region.

Due to the fault, electricity supply remained disrupted in many areas for nearly one-and-a-half to two hours, creating confusion and frustration among residents. Authorities later stated that the affected lines had been restarted and efforts were underway to restore normal power supply.

However, officials indicated that electricity in some localities may only be fully restored after 11 am, raising concerns that daily activities and work schedules could be delayed.

Residents also claimed that brief power cuts lasting 15 to 20 minutes have been occurring frequently over the past few days. The sudden outage on Sunday morning further intensified the inconvenience, particularly for people living in densely populated chawls and residential clusters who had to cope with the heat without electricity.

In several older buildings, lifts stopped functioning during the outage, forcing residents to use staircases. The situation was particularly difficult for elderly residents, women and children, many of whom had to climb multiple floors amid the heat.
