Thane, Maharashtra (April 9, 2025): A tragic incident occurred at the banks of the Bhatsa River, where a mother, her son, and their niece drowned while washing clothes. The accident happened when the son entered the water for a bath but began to drown. His mother jumped in to save him, followed by their niece, but none of them could swim. All three lost their lives.

The victims have been identified as Lakshmi Dattatray Patil, 50, her son Dheeraj Dattatray Patil, 17, and their niece Vanita Shelke, 33. According to reports, Lakshmi and Vanita were washing clothes when Dheeraj entered the river. Misjudging the depth, he started drowning. Lakshmi jumped in to rescue him but also struggled. Seeing them in distress, Vanita attempted to save them but met the same fate.

Upon receiving the information, Shahapur police and a rescue team reached the spot and retrieved the bodies. The deceased were sent for post-mortem at Shahapur Sub-District Hospital. A case of accidental death has been registered at Shahapur police station.
