Thane, Maharashtra (February 24, 2025): The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition drive on Monday at Camp No. 2 in Hanuman Nagar dumping ground to remove illegal structures. During the action, a woman attempted self-immolation by pouring kerosene on herself while another tried to climb into a JCB machine to stop the operation.

Officials demolished 10 illegal structures, including five houses and two huts. Assistant Commissioner Ganesh Shimpi said the drive would continue in the coming days.

Illegal constructions have been on the rise in the city with allegations of political backing. Residents and activists have been demanding stricter enforcement to curb unauthorised developments.
