Hailakandi is a town and the district headquarters of Hailakandi district in the Indian state of Assam. The first chairman of the town committee was Moulvi Abdul Matlib Mazumdar, who also became the first Indian Chairman of the Local Board and then a cabinet minister of Assam in 1946.
