Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Ten co-opted members will be selected in the municipal corporation this year. Parties with a higher number of elected corporators will get a greater share of nominated members. A total of 80 applications were submitted for the nominated posts, of which 52 have been deemed eligible. Ten candidates will be selected at a special general body (GB) meeting scheduled for 11 am on April 20.

The BJP, with the highest strength of 57 corporators, will get five co-opted members. The AIMIM, which has 33 corporators, will get three seats. The party has already announced its nominees, including Mohammed Asrar, Shaikh Ahmed, and Kunal Kharat. The Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, with 13 corporators, will get one co-opted member, while the Uddhav faction, with six corporators, will also get one. The Congress and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, with one corporator each, will not get any berth in the body.

The BJP also has the highest number of aspirants for these positions, but the party has not yet announced any names. According to sources, the list of co-opted corporators will be submitted directly to the mayor by party leaders at 11 am on April 20. Other parties are also likely to follow the same approach to avoid discontent among their workers.

Two cases against AIMIM nominee

Among the three nominees announced by AIMIM, Mohammed Asrar has already visited various municipal corporation offices and hospitals, introducing himself as a corporator even before his official selection. Following this, the municipal administration has registered two separate cases against him. However, sources in the corporation clarified that these cases have no bearing on his potential selection.
