A 10-year-old boy died of electrocution while attempting to switch off an electric water pump after filling water from a household tap. The incident occurred around 6.30 am on Sunday in the slum area of Undangaon.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Sonawane. According to reports, after water supply resumed in the locality on Sunday morning, Ganesh’s family had switched on an electric motor to fill water. When Ganesh went to turn off the motor, he received a severe electric shock due to current passing through a damp wire. Family members immediately rushed him to the sub-district hospital in Sillod, where doctors examined him and declared him dead. Ganesh was a Class IV student at Savitribai Phule School. He was the only son of his parents. Teachers and classmates were deeply shocked by his untimely demise, describing him as a bright student. “The new uniform his father bought for the next academic year is now just a memory,” a teacher said, expressing grief. His last rites were performed in a sombre atmosphere later in the afternoon. He is survived by his parents, a sister, grandmother, and uncle and aunt.
