A 10 MVA, 11-tonne power transformer was commissioned on Saturday at the Baijipura substation after a nearly 12-hour shutdown. Though Mahavitaran stated supply was restored at 8 pm, several areas faced outages till 11 pm, causing distress amid humid weather.

The substation earlier operated with one 10 MVA and one 5 MVA transformer, supplying 15,000–20,000 consumers. With rising demand, the 5 MVA unit was upgraded to 10 MVA under the Chief Minister Solar Agricultural Feeder Scheme 2.0, guided by chief engineer Pavan Kumar Kachot.

Work began at 7 am, with supply cut after 8 am. The old transformer was removed and the new unit installed by 6 pm. After testing, it was energized at 8 pm and supply reportedly restored.

The shutdown affected Jinsi, Roshan Gate, Shahabazar, Juna Bazar, Shahaganj, Bamboo Market, Jafargate, Juna Mondha, Ahinsanagar, Baijipura and Sanjaynagar. However, residents of Sanjaynagar, Kailasnagar and Bhavaninagar reported continued and intermittent outages till late night, stating elderly citizens and children suffered the most.

Mayor Sameer Rajurkar, Deputy Mayor Rajendra Janjal, standing committee chairman Anil Makariye, opposition leader Sameer Sajed, executive engineer Prasad Mahatole, in-charge additional executive engineer Rajendra Rathod, Ravindra Gaikwad, assistant engineer Anil Bansode, Santosh Kolhe, Pradeep Shreshtha, Rahul Chavan and Manish Dighule, along with corporators and staff, were present.
