Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Municipal Commissioner Amol Yedge has said that property tax payment is the responsibility of every property holder. For the financial year 2025–26, only 1.40 lakh citizens have paid their property tax so far, while around 1.60 lakh property owners have not deposited their taxes. An action plan has been prepared to recover the pending dues, and special ward-level teams will soon be deployed for collection. The commissioner has set a target to complete the recovery within one month.

While speaking to the media, Yedge said that in the coming month, his focus will be on three key areas—water supply, waste management, and property tax recovery.

He said efforts will be made to provide an additional 50 MLD of water through the old water supply system, restart operations of the waste collection company, and recover pending taxes from defaulters. Help desks will be set up in all zonal offices as per the mayor’s instructions. Once an application is submitted by a citizen, property tax assessment must be completed within seven days.

A special team of 20 employees will be formed to carry out GIS-based surveys, review ‘gunthewari’ properties, and correct duplicate property entries in municipal corporation records. Each staff member is expected to survey 30 to 50 properties daily.

Yedge also said that improving tax recovery is essential as the civic body has taken a loan of Rs 822 crore for the water supply project, and loan repayment will begin next year. Therefore, financial strengthening is necessary.

Three waste transfer stations required

The new waste management company will require at least three transfer stations for collection work. While two stations are nearing completion, operations can proceed only after the third is ready.

Priority to development works

After the budget is approved, detailed planning will be done for large-scale development projects. When asked about balancing finances and development work, the commissioner said priorities will be set and projects will be executed as funds become available. A structured approval and planning system will also be implemented.
