Aurangabad, Nov 21:

About eighteen sugar mills from the district have commenced their sugarcane crushing from the first week of November. In all, 22 sugar mills had sought permission from the office of commissioner of sugar to start crushing. However, only 18 have started the process.

Most of the six sugar factories have been started in Beed district that include Ambajogai, Jaybhavani, Majalgaon, Chhatrapati, Jai Mahesh NSL and Yedeshwari sugar factories. Five factories have been started in Aurangabad district that includes Sant Eknath, Baramati Agro, Sambhaji Raje and Ghrishneshwar sugar factories.

So far, 18 mills have crushed 10 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 6.50 lakh quintals of sugar. These factories have got 6.65 per cent sugar extraction. Out of 7 sugar factories in Jalgaon district, only Sant Muktabai Sugar and Energy has started this year. Sugarcane crushing has started in Satpuda and tribal areas in Nandurbar district.
