Fifty children living with Type-1 diabetes successfully completed a 15-km night trek from Daulatabad to Khuldabad organised by ‘Uddan’, showcasing courage, discipline and self-confidence.
Carrying glucometers, snacks and insulin, the children managed their sugar levels independently throughout the four-hour trek that began at 11:30 pm and concluded at 4 am. During the journey, they checked blood sugar levels, took insulin doses on time and supported one another.
The initiative aimed to boost confidence among children living with diabetes and encourage the spirit of “Self Help is the Best Help.” ‘Uddan’ founder Dr Archana Sarada, Dr Sampat Sarada, Dr Ajay Boralkar, Dr Abhijit Boralkar, actors Kundan Roy and Saifuddin Abbas, Dr. Kalyan More and Sandeep Vahul participated in the trek and motivated the children. “The trek helped children develop the belief that they can do everything like others,” said Dr. Archana Sarada.

Reached Khultabad at 4 am
During the trek, the children checked their blood sugar levels four times, administered insulin doses and independently managed their health. They identified symptoms of fatigue or hypoglycaemia in time, consumed snacks when needed and looked after one another throughout the journey. The trek began from Daulatabad at 11.30 pm. After walking nearly 15 km, the children reached Khultabad at around 4 am. The sense of satisfaction and confidence was clearly visible on every participant’s face. “For the first time, I felt that I can do everything just like others,” one of the children said.
