Shocking details have emerged in the brutal murder at Sai Shraddha Park in Bajajnagar. Police investigations reveal that the accused, Shaila Sonar, had been carrying pepper spray, an air gun and a sharp knife with her for the past year. Preliminary findings suggest that anger and fear stemming from an old flat dispute and financial tensions culminated in the killing of Sadhana Sonpetkar. Police are also probing whether the original target was Sadhana’s husband, Mahendra Sonpetkar. According to investigators, the accused had purchased the air gun a few months ago from the Mondha area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for around Rs 6,000. She reportedly kept pepper spray and a knife in her purse regularly. Police are examining whether the crime was premeditated or committed in a moment of rage. It has also come to light that the accused harboured resentment against Mahendra over an old financial and property dispute. On the day of the incident, Shaila allegedly went to Mahendra’s residence with the intent to kill him. However, finding him absent, she was confronted by Sadhana. A heated argument ensued, during which the accused repeatedly stabbed Sadhana in a fit of fury, killing her on the spot. Though Sadhana had no direct role in the dispute, she tragically became its victim. The incident has left the family devastated. Police arrested Shaila Sonar and initially secured two days of police custody. She was later produced before a court on Saturday and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway by Waluj MIDC police.
