AMC organises contest on heritage gates to create awareness about culture

Aurangabad, Jan 23:

To instil pride amongst citizens for living in Aurangabad, which is well-known across the globe as the city of 52 Gates, and sensitise about the rich heritage and diverse culture, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has organised a competition to build models (replicas) of any of the heritage gates in the city.

The art competition is open for citizens of all age group, gender and professions. The participants will have to register their names on payment of Rs 100 and submit their model on or before February 15, 2021. The organisers will display the best, and prize-winning models at AMC art gallery in Town Hall. The desirous citizens may contact Hansraj Bansal on mobile number 9422211107 for any queries.

The height of the model should be of 15 inches, and the length and width should also be of equal size only. The participants may Plaster of Paris (PoP), wood, wax, siporex, fibre, cardboard, mount board, metal, stone, marble, bamboo, glass etc. to prepare their models. The usage of thermocol and plastic is strictly not allowed. The participants may prepare a model of heritage structures like Town Hall or Clock Tower (Shahgunj) also as an option.

The competition is guided by the AMC administrator Astik Kumar Pandey Pandey, additional commissioners B B Nemane and R P Nikam. The cultural officer Sanjeev Sonar stated that the first cash prize is of Rs 21,000, the second cash prize is of Rs 15,000, and there are two third cash prizes are of Rs 10,000, apart from 10 consolation prizes of Rs 3,000 each.

The competition is an initiative to connect today's generation with the past, sensitise citizens about our past glory, rich culture, heritage and apprise about the conservation of heritage structures etc., says the civic authorities.

As reported earlier, the AMC had undertaken conservation of nine gates and clock tower in the city. The works are to be completed by March-April. A sum of Rs 3.50 crore would be spending on this heritage conservation project.
