Aurangabad, Feb 8:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was unable to seal the leakages, that had occurred in the 450 mm size pipeline extending from Kotla Colony ESR to Kranti Chowk, due to heavy flow of traffic on Jalna Road during the daytime. Acting upon the traffic branch's suggestion, the civic officials will undertake the task during the night hours today.

It may be noted that the 1400 mm size pipeline on Railway Station Road had got damaged on Sunday early morning. The shopkeepers sustained huge losses after a huge quantity of water got stormed in their shops. Co-incidentally, a crack developed in the pipeline of 450 mm size which transports water from Kotla Colony ESR to Kranti Chowk. The leakage spot is closed to the Kranti Chowk flyover. Huge quantity of water got wasted since last night. The areas near the spot got dipped in the poo, of water. The civic team tried to seal the leakage today morning, but due to heavy flow of traffic. They were unable to continue the task. As there was an obstruction to traffic, the police suggested that the AMC undertake the repair works during the night.

It is learnt that the AMC will start digging of trench today at 10 pm and then launch a search for the leakage, said the executive engineer Kiran Dhande and engineer Arun More. According to the AMC officials, the labourers face inconvenience due to low temperature (chill weather) in the city. Besides, the equipment needed to repair is not available as the shops get closed in the evening. This becomes hard to work in this situation. The task will be undertaken tonight so that it can be done without obstruction.

Meanwhile, a large quantity of water is also getting wasted from a valve near Nishant Park on Beed Bypass Road for the past some days. The valve is fixed on the Express pipeline supplying water to Cidco areas. There was a huge rush of women at the valve to fill the water. The executive engineer Dhande inspected the spot and undertook the repair works late in the night. He said the work would be done without stopping the water supply through this pipeline.
