Aurangabad, June 9:

The 1400 mm size main pipeline supplying water to the city including different neighbourhoods of Cidco has got damaged near Chittegaon toll plaza (Paithan Road) on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The water supply officials of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) immediately emptied the pipeline and undertook the repairing work on a war footing. Meanwhile, the citizens, who were expecting to receive water in their taps, were pushed to face inconvenience as the supply schedule has been postponed by one day.

The AMC lifts water from Jayakwadi Dam and transports it to the city through two main pipelines of 700 mm and 1400 mm in size. The lifting of around 120 MLD water is done daily round the clock. It so happened that the AMC officials came to know that a large quantity of water is being wasted through the damage near the Chittegaon toll. Hence the water supply team reached the spot at 12.30 am on Wednesday. They immediately stopped the lifting of water from the source, emptied the water present in the pipeline by transporting it towards the city, and then undertook the task on priority. The work was continued during the whole day and was continued till late in the evening.

The AMC's acting executive engineer Kiran Dhande said, " The lifting of water would start from Jayakwadi Dam after completion of the repairing work at 8 pm. The water supply will be stored in the ESRs during the whole night and then the distribution to the citizens will resume from tomorrow morning. The areas which deprived of water in their taps today will be getting water tomorrow." The supply is likely to restore normalcy by Friday. Meanwhile, the water supply of the city's major area has been postponed for a day, said the water supply officials.
