Aurangabad, Nov 7:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has instructed the contractor of LED streetlights to remain on toes and ensure there is no single defunct streetlight during Diwali festival in the city.

The jurisdiction of AMC comprises 115 election wards. There are 57,000 LED streetlights fixed in all nine zones of the office. The responsibility of maintaining 40,000 streetlights is with the contractor, and the responsibility of 17,000 streetlights is with the civic body. As per the agreement, the contractor has to repair and maintain these LED streetlights for ten years. As Diwali festival is around the corner, the contractor and the AMC had constituted squads separately to maintain the streetlights. These squads are visiting different parts of the city during night hours to detect defunct streetlights. If there is a minor repair, it is done on the spot, and if there is a change in the electrical component, then it is done on the second day. The contractor is instructed to ensure that not a single streetlight from his jurisdiction should be found defunct during the festival period," said the executive engineer (electrical section) A B Deshmukh.

" If the contractor fails to take action upon complaints, the AMC would take penal action against it. I am also paying surprise visits during night hours to review the situation," said Deshmukh. He appealed to the citizens to contact the AMC office if they found any defunct streetlight during the night hours. The AMC will settle the complaints on priority.
