AMC waiting for fresh stock of vaccine

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) seven vaccination centres were functioning on Saturday. However, each centre witnessed a huge rush. As a result, the stock of 3,000 vaccines got exhausted in a couple of hours. Hence the citizens who were waiting in long serpentine queues for hours had to leave the centre with heavy hearts. There were some citizens trying their luck by visiting another centre to get the vaccine, but was in vain. According to AMC sources, if the vaccine stock is received by Sunday night then the AMC would be implementing the vaccination drive on Monday.

The population of the district is assumed as 45 lakh including Aurangabad City's 17 lakh. There is poor response to the vaccination drive in the rural parts of the district. On other hand, there is a good response to vaccination in the city, but the supply of vaccines is inadequate. Three days ago, 45,000 doses of vaccine were received from the state government. The health administration then gave 30,000 doses to the rural sector and 15,000 were given to AMC. Of the supplied stock, the AMC finished 12,000 doses on Friday and the remaining 3,000 doses were given through seven centres on Saturday. There was an absence of planning, as a result, the AMC gave the first dose and second dose to the citizens. Hence the vaccine got finished in two hours. Meanwhile, the AMC is pushed into trouble as there is no vaccine in stock and the citizens are getting messages of the second dose. There were around 4,000 persons waiting for their second dose.

The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar said, " There is a demand of 18,000 vaccines daily. As a result, the AMC made arrangements for centres to give 20,000 vaccines daily. The AMC is pursuing with the state government to get an adequate quantity of vaccines. The supply of present stock to AMC is inadequate. The AMC administration is demanding to supply adequate quantity of vaccine to the AMC."
