Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Frequent power outages in areas served by the Baijipura substation are now expected to reduce significantly. After 10 hours of continuous effort, a massive new power transformer weighing 11 tonnes and with a capacity of 10 MVA was commissioned on Saturday. With this, MSEDCL has assured uninterrupted and quality power supply to the area. As a concrete solution to the steadily rising demand, around 15,000 to 20,000 consumers will get major relief.

Earlier, the Baijipura substation had one 10 MVA and one 5 MVA power transformer, supplying electricity to nearly 15,000 to 20,000 consumers in the surrounding areas. However, the growing number of consumers and increasing demand had been causing disruptions in smooth power supply. Under the guidance of chief engineer Pawan Kumar Kachhot, it was decided under the Chief Minister Solar Agricultural Feeder Scheme 2.0 to upgrade one of the 5 MVA transformers to 10 MVA. This work was completed on Saturday.

Present during the commissioning were mayor Sameer Rajurkar, deputy mayor Rajendra Janjal, standing committee chairman Anil Makariye, opposition leader Sameer Sajed, executive engineer Prasad Mahatole, in-charge additional executive engineer Rajendra Rathod, Ravindra Gaikwad, assistant engineers Anil Bansode, Santosh Kolhe, Pradeep Shrestha, Rahul Chavan, Manish Dighule, along with local corporators and Msedcl staff.

How the work was carried out

The work began at 7 am on Saturday. Power supply was shut down after 8 am, and the existing 5 MVA transformer was first removed. Installing the new 10 MVA transformer, weighing nearly 11 tonnes, was a challenging task carried out with great care. Engineers and staff of Mahavitaran worked tirelessly for 10 hours and installed the new transformer by 6 pm.

Power supply to the substation remained shut during this period. After all tests were successfully completed, the new transformer was energised at 8 pm, following which electricity supply to all connected feeders was restored.

Areas to benefit

With both transformers at the substation now having a combined capacity of 20 MVA, consumers will receive uninterrupted and improved quality power supply. Areas benefiting include Jinsi, Roshan Gate, Shahabazar, Juna Bazaar, Shahganj, Bamboo Market, Jafar Gate, Juna Mondha, Baijipura, Sanjaynagar and nearby localities.
