Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Serving in the Indian Army is a matter of pride, self-respect, and service to the nation. To become an officer in the armed forces, young aspirants must combine strong determination with self-confidence, emphasised Brigadier Anup Barbare and Major Pranav Shendge.
The Department of Student Development at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) organised a special guidance session on “Opportunities in Defence Services” for undergraduate and postgraduate students on Thursday in the university auditorium. The session was led by Brigadier Barbare, Group Commander of the National Cadet Corps, and Major Shendge from the Army Training Centre, Panchmadhi (Madhya Pradesh). Dr Walmik Sarwade, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, presided over the session. Dr Kailas Ambure, Director of the Student Development Board, was also present.
Major Shendge explained that apart from soldiers, there are numerous technical and supporting officer positions in the Indian armed forces. Students with interests in the National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, and other competitive activities should set their goals from school age. He also advised aspiring officers to prepare in areas such as mental aptitude, self-assessment, group discussions, and leadership skills.
Guidance, direction, and hard work needed: Brigadier Barbare
Brigadier Barbare said that thousands of positions exist in the armed forces for both combat and technical/support officers. To attain these posts, young candidates need proper guidance, clear direction, and rigorous hard work. He urged students to develop knowledge from an early age by reading NCERT textbooks. In today’s competitive environment, he added, acquiring knowledge beyond the degree syllabus is essential for entrance into officer positions in the armed forces and competitive exams.
The session was also attended by Dr Sudhakar Shendge, Director of the Lifelong Learning and Extension Department; Dr Sominath Khade, Director of National Services Scheme; Lieutenant Gyaneshwar Gawlikar, Lieutenant P T Bachewad, Lieutenant Pathan Asad Khan, Subedar Satya Pal, and Lieutenant Arjun More.
