A man attempting to steal vehicle batteries from the municipal parking lot at Central square was caught red-handed on Tuesday night.
The accused, identified as Sayyed Rehan Sayyed Asad from Naregaon, is now in police custody. Transporter Arif Khan owns seven cargo vehicles, two of which had their batteries stolen on March 19 and 22. Suspecting repeated thefts, his brother kept a close watch and, around 9 pm on March 26, spotted Rehan trying to remove another battery. He was immediately apprehended and handed over to Jinsi police.A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine if the accused was involved in other similar thefts.
