CANPACK halts production due to gas shortage
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
CANPACK India Private Limited, a leading company in Waluj MIDC, has stopped its production process due to the unavailability of commercial gas.
It may be noted that since the US-Iran war began, the Government has imposed restrictions on domestic commercial gas distribution. This has started affecting various companies in industrial estates.
Due to the unavailability of LPG gas, several pharmaceutical manufacturing companies had to halt their production processes last month.
Now, after a month of follow-up without any gas supply, senior officials of CANPACK India, a leading company in Waluj MIDC, confirmed that the company stopped its production process.
The Canpack Company manufactures cola, beer cans, and glass bottles, which are used by pharmaceutical companies and food processing industries. The company uses LPG gas and harness oil for its production process.
After the government stopped commercial gas supply, company officials had estimated before Industries Minister Uday Samant that if gas supply was not restored, a sudden shutdown of machinery could cause losses of Rs 600 crore to the company.
Despite continuous follow-up, the company did not receive gas. “As a result, the company gradually halted its production”, confirmed senior official Janardan Kale.

If gas is not made available to this company urgently, the entire machinery will come to a standstill. We have informed the government about the situation. Some companies are receiving gas supply from private gas companies, while others have started using alternative fuels."

Shortage of meters at BPCL?
BPCL officials had earlier assured the applicant companies of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supply. However, providing a PNG connection requires specific gas meters that need to be ordered, a process that takes six weeks.
