Cheaper power begins in auric for DMIC industries
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Auric City started supplying electricity at reduced rates to industries in the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) on April 1.
The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) recently approved Auric’s tariff and granted a separate power distribution license.
Large industries are now receiving power at Rs 1.59 per unit less, while small units are saving Rs 1.46 per unit. The electricity distribution covers Shendra and Bidkin zones, where 95% of plots in Shendra and 80% in Bidkin have already been allocated.
Auric, officially known as Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL), will handle power supply, billing, and recovery. Retired MSEDCL officers have been appointed to oversee the process. Transmission charges in Auric are also lower than those of MSEDCL.
Consumers using 20 HP or more are classified as high-tension and benefit from greater savings. Those below 20 HP fall under low-tension and also get subsidised rates.

“Industries in Auric save Rs 1 to Rs 1.25 per unit compared to other MIDC areas. We urge similar concessions for other industrial zones. Competing with states offering cheaper tariffs is tough unless rates are brought down here.”----Chetan Raut, President, MASSIA
