Cidco Waluj Mahanagar: Sanitary workers resume work after assurance of releasing two months wages

Aurangabad, June 3:

The residents staying in Cidco Waluj Mahanagar feared health threats after the sanitary workers (appointed by the private agency) stopped the door-to-door collection of garbage for the past two days for their outstanding wages. Meanwhile, the Cidco administration has informed the existing garbage contractor to continue the work till the process of inviting new tender is approved by the higher office. Hence the garbage collection got started today morning.

Through the tender process, the Cidco administration awarded the contract of garbage collection to R.D.Pest Control. Accordingly, the contractor appointed 45 sanitary workers for garbage collection and maintain hygiene in the jurisdiction. The garbage collected door-to-door is disposed of by 10 ghanta gadis. Each worker is paid a salary of Rs 9,000 per month. However, the problem started when the contract with Cidco got ended in March. As a result, the workers were not paid the wages of April and May. They tried their best to get their dues but were in vain. Hence, the workers stopped the garbage collection from June 1. This posed an inconvenience to residents and also pushed them to worry as they could not understand where to dump the garbage. They feared health threats as the unexpected showers are lashing in the city for the past few days. Hence the Teesgaon deputy sarpanch Nagesh Kuthare, Narendra Yadav, and residents submitted their grievances to the Cidco Administrator and the District Collector.

When contacted the Cidco's assistant estate officer Gajanan Satote said, " The term of present contractor got ended in March. Hence the process of inviting new tender is underway. The due wages of sanitary workers (of two months) will be paid to them soon. Till the tender process is approved, we have asked the existing contractor to continue the work of garbage collection. Hence the works got started from today (June 3) morning."
