Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

An unidentified man allegedly stole Rs 6,800 from an elderly woman after gaining her trust at an SBI branch in Bansilalnagar on May 5 around 1 pm. A case has been registered at Vedantnagar police station.

Complainant Tribhuvan (80), a resident of the Deolai Chowk area, had visited the SBI branch in Bansilalnagar to withdraw money. After withdrawing Rs 20,000, she was sorting out worn-out currency notes when an unknown youth standing beside her struck up a friendly conversation and won her confidence. Offering to help count the cash, he took the bundle of notes from her and, through sleight of hand, allegedly pocketed Rs 6,800 before fleeing the spot. Police have initiated further investigation.
