Man attacks three brothers-in-law with sickle over children’s quarrel; one loses three fingers

A minor dispute between children escalated into a violent attack after an enraged man allegedly assaulted his three brothers-in-law with a sickle in Jai Bhavani Nagar, Lane No. 1, on May 8 afternoon.

One victim lost three fingers, another suffered a severe hand injury, and the third was also wounded. A case has been registered at the Mukundwadi police station. The accused has been identified as Govind Pawar, a security guard by profession and resident of Jai Bhavaninagar. He has been arrested, police said. According to the complaint lodged by Prashant Chafakanade (33), he lives with his parents and two brothers. His two sisters are married, and one resides in the same locality. About eight days ago, the accused had taken his child home after beating him. When questioned about assaulting the child, he allegedly threatened the family, saying he would “deal with them later.” On May 8 afternoon, Pawar reportedly came near Prashant’s house and called the three brothers outside. As soon as they approached, he allegedly launched a sudden attack with a sickle. Prashant lost three fingers of his left hand, his brother Angad sustained a serious injury to his left hand, and the eldest brother Bharat was also attacked. Locals intervened, following which the accused fled the scene. Mukundwadi police registered a case of attempt to murder and later arrested Pawar. A court has remanded him to two days of police custody.
