A local court sentenced a man to two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 20,000 for attempting to kill a contractor over a job dismissal. Additional Sessions Judge S.K. Kulkarni convicted Ritesh Sharadkumar Mehra (47, Shastri Mohalla, Old Jalna) on Friday. The court ordered that Rs 15,000 from the fine be given as compensation to the victim.

The case dates back to June 4, 2022, when contractor Swapnil Chaudhary, who had fired Mehra from his role as a supervisor, was attacked. Chaudhary was leaving the Sailani Baba temple in Padgaon around 10.45 am when a masked biker intercepted his vehicle. The attacker yanked open the car door and pressed a knife to his throat.

In the scuffle, the assailant’s face covering slipped, revealing Mehra. He attempted to stab Chaudhary in the throat, but the knife struck his chest instead. Mehra attacked again, leaving Chaudhary severely injured and unconscious.
