Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A single property owner was taxed two to three times. The tax assessment and evaluation department had caused chaos by imposing a commercial tax on residential properties. Regarding this, the newspaper published a series of news stories for three days. Taking note of this, the civic administration organised a camp at TV Centre Ground starting from Friday. On the first day itself, 111 property owners were provided relief.

Administrator G Sreekanth has been focusing more on property tax collection for the past one and a half years. Despite the municipal corporation records showing over 3 lakh property owners, the required amount of tax is not collected every year. This year, the administration is determined to collect revenue of Rs 500 crore through taxes. However, more than 18,000 property owners have been charged two to three times for the same property. The newspaper had exposed the massive chaos in tax assessment. Taking note of this, the administration organised a three-day camp. Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Aparna Thete, the camp started on Friday morning. Property owners began gathering early in the morning. Immediate hearings were held for 111 objections, and they were resolved on the spot. In some cases, measurements were taken at the property location based on objections raised by the owners.

Committees for Complaints

To verify the objections, Thete has set up various committees. These committees will investigate complaints such as double taxation despite having a building permit, double registration of property, and the imposition of the same tax again without discontinuing the previous tax. These committees will thoroughly examine such complaints.
