CSMC’s annual budget focuses on greener, cleaner, healthier city

The annual budget presented by the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) on Wednesday places strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, sports promotion, and educational development, along with key civic improvements.

Green Bonds Initiative

In a first, CSMC plans to raise Rs 200 crore through Green Bonds, following the model of cities like Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Nashik. The bonds, to be listed on the stock exchange, will fund eco-friendly projects. With a 25 per cent central government subsidy and 10% incentive, the total available funds could rise to Rs 270 crore.

Clean city push

A major allocation of Rs 121.5 crore has been made for solid waste management, covering waste collection, MRF centres, legacy waste processing, and public awareness programmes. The aim is to bring the city among India’s top 10 cleanest cities.

Green & Urban Development

Garden in every prabhag with a Rs 9.7 crore allocation

Rs 2.5 crore for digital tree census with QR coding

Rs 1 crore for Siddharth Garden and Rs 1 crore for a botanical garden

Animal welfare measures

Rs 50 lakh for collar belts for stray dogs

Rs 1 crore for sterilisation, pet parks, and a dog crematorium

Proposal for a dog shelter

Sports development

A total of Rs 61 crore has been allocated:

Rs 50 crore for Garware Stadium

Rs 10 crore for playgrounds

Rs 2.5 crore for indigenous sports

Table tennis academy in Baijipura

Disaster management

Rs 10 crore for equipment and training

Rs 2 crore for a disaster management centre

Rs 16 crore for vehicles

Healthcare boost

Ayurvedic centre (Rs 1 crore)

Eye hospital (Rs 20 lakh)

Multi-speciality hospital (Rs 1 crore)

AI-enabled medical equipment and EVs for services

Education focus

Rs 5 crore for new classrooms

Introduction of AI, robotics, foreign languages, and competitive exam centres

School bands to be established

Mechanical upgrades

Rs 2.85 crore for a pothole patching machine

Rs 2.4 crore for fleet management system

Additional machinery for construction waste processing

The budget highlights CSMC’s push toward sustainable urban development while strengthening infrastructure, education, and sports facilities across the city.
