Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Born in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and raised in Saudi Arabia, Annie Wahab is making a mark as a film producer, bringing cultural and historical stories to global platforms. Having spent over 25 years in Saudi Arabia, she blends her strong Indian roots with international experience.

Journey from production to global projects

Starting her career in production, Annie worked on corporate films, commercials and documentaries, gradually moving into larger international projects. She was part of the short stop-motion animation film Saleeg, which was featured on Netflix. She has also worked on the historical documentary Lost Worlds: The Nabataeans with British historian Bettany Hughes, along with a cultural documentary on traditional palm weaving practices in Saudi Arabia.

Work in AlUla and film festivals

Her professional journey includes working in AlUla, a major filming destination in Saudi Arabia, where she coordinated with international filmmakers and promoted the region for global productions. She has been part of the organising team at the Red Sea International Film Festival and has attended the Cannes Film Festival, gaining global exposure. During these platforms, she interacted with noted personalities including Riz Ahmed, Rekha and Ali Fazal.

Passion for documentaries

Annie says her interest in documentaries comes from her curiosity to understand real stories. “Documentaries allow me to learn and tell stories that matter,” she says.

Strong connection to roots

Despite her global journey, Annie remains closely connected to her hometown. “Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is always home. I take pride in where I come from,” she says.

Looking ahead

She hopes to work on a project based in her city in the future, calling it a place full of untold stories.

“It’s been an adventurous journey. I’ve taken risks, learnt constantly, and I’m grateful for everything that has shaped me.”

When daughters of the city represent their roots on global platforms, it not only brings pride to the region but also inspires many more to dream beyond boundaries.
