The state government has extended the deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Initially set for March 30 the deadline has now been pushed to June 30, 2025, as installation progress remains slow. The government issued an official notification regarding this extension on Thursday.

Following the extension, Regional transport officers (RTOs) and Deputy Regional Transport Officers have been directed to launch awareness campaigns in their respective regions. They must also coordinate with vehicle dealers, auto-rickshaws, taxi, bus, and truck associations to ensure compliance with the mandate.

HSRP plates offer multiple benefits, including tamper-proof design, making alterations and duplication impossible, thereby preventing vehicle theft and fraud. These plates also help track traffic violations and accident-related vehicles. Additionally, HSRP plates are electronically registered and linked to vehicle owners, enhancing security and traceability. Unlike regular plates, HSRP plates require professional installation with a specialized nut-bolt fitting system and cannot be installed at home. With just over three months left until the new deadline, vehicle owners are urged to get their HSRP plates installed at the earliest to avoid penalties.
